Jakarta, Indonesiaalyoum.com – Construction on the second section of the 61.6-kilometer toll road connecting Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan in West Java will begin in early 2018 after an additional loan agreement with China was signed on Friday (24/11).

The toll road, known commonly as Cisumdawu, is divided into six sections, two of them funded by Chinese loans amounting to Rp 6.7 trillion ($469 million), while construction on the remaining sections have been funded from a Rp 8.4 trillion investment by private company Citra Karya Jabar Tol.

“The government has a responsibility in two sections which are funded from Chinese government loans,” said Arie Setiadi Moerwanto, Bina Marga road director at the Ministry of Public Works, as he witnessed the contract signing of the third part of the loan worth Rp 2.2 trillion at his office in Jakarta.

The project, which began in 2011, is expected to be completed sometime in 2019, though only 16 kilometers of the road have been completed so far.

“The section spaning from Cileunyi to Rancakalong is harder in land acquisition because it’s among the city centers,” Arie said.

Parts of the third section of the road are also being negotiated under land acquisition settlements.

“The most critical area of this project’s construction is in Cileunyi, because designs in that area are complicated, but we had experience with those of kinds of situations when finishing the new Semanggi Flyover in Jakarta,” he added.

The toll road is planned to connect to West Java’s new Kertajati International Airport, which is also under construction and is expected to begin operations in 2018.
